About the Hours Calculator
An hour is a period of time equal to 60 minutes, or 3,600 seconds. There are 24 hours in a day. Most people read time using either a 12-hour or a 24-hour clock.
12-Hour vs. 24-Hour Clock
A 12-hour clock uses the numbers 1-12, followed by "AM" (ante meridiem, "before midday") or "PM" (post meridiem, "after noon") to denote the time of day. A 24-hour clock uses the numbers 00-23 to represent the hours in a day, avoiding the ambiguity of AM/PM. This format is an international standard often referred to as military time.
